Though I am in love with Pranayama, this book is very oddly written and extremely boring.To those interested in the huge benefits of Pranayama, I recommend an excellent DVD by Dr Vasant Lad. IT is available here on Amazon and it is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.

Very nice book.
A little to technical for me. I guess I was looking for a more simple explanation. Nice to have a reference.
OK. A litle too spiritual in orientation for my students
For those wanting to learn breath control and the power of breathing mindfully this is a great resource. Written a little rough, but you still get the points of proper practice and history of Pranayama. Can't go wrong adding this to your reference library.
It certainly contains a lot of information about breathing exercises. The use of too many technical word may cause frustration to beginner yogis. My advice is too use glossary at the end of the book to know the English meaning of the technical words. It was a nice read.
Not really what I would call Science, but at least it turns an analytical eye to Pranayama. Some discussion of the physiological effects of proper breath, some wild claims. No science that I saw, but at least it's information, so I'd still recommend it to someone looking to learn more about Pranayama.
I have taught Yoga in several countries and attended retreat with husband in Paradise Island. Always had used Swami Sivananda teachings when learning and or teaching Yoga. Although I do not teach Yoga anymore, this is a book I would recommend. I bought this as a present for my son who is now also a Yoga Teacher! It was a required read for his instructor training! Delivered on time! and as expected!
