When I finally gave up using the financial program "Manage Your Money" simply because it was no longer supported by either the originators nor Windows, I moved about six months ago to the Quicken program. No guidebook came with it and all help was either part of program or online. Both methods were less than satisfactory to someone trying to learning the complexities of a very sophisticated program.I sent for and quickly received in good order the official manual. I have no complaint about the author's understanding of the program, but the manual is highly detailed, often makes assumptions about the reader's understanding and is not always intuitive. Nor is the program. For example, the index directs the reader to a page(s) ostensibly outlining a procedure. Once there, the reader finds his question unanswered and is directed to another Chapter, but no page number.
I believe that the Quicken program is quite good and the Guide includes a great deal of detail about it. But for a newcomer, it can require rather deep study rather than mere perusal. Practice may indeed make perfect, but be prepared for a long and often bumpy road to perfection with or without the manual.
I would urge Quicken to obtain a copy of the guide book that the financial guru Andrew Tobias wrote for Manage Your Money buyers. It was concise, extremely well organized and actually fun to read.
